Beneath the Surface is a photographic series that explores the relationship between visibility, emotion, and perception. Each portrait is taken through a surface such as plastic, fabric, water, or light that creates a layer that distorts the subject’s face in subtle or dramatic ways. These materials introduce visual tension, acting as barriers that shape how the subject is seen and felt by the viewer.
The core idea behind this series is the feeling of being trapped, distant, or not fully present. While each image may evoke different emotions depending on the material used, there is a shared sense of quiet confinement. These distortions are not only visual but symbolic, reflecting emotional states, internal thoughts, or external pressures.
